During mid-August and the end of summer, thirty-three (33) years ago, a college classmate planned to visit the Canadian Rockies at the Banff National Park in order to climb the Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House Hike Above Lake Louise, around the outskirts of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. This college classmate is a great outdoors person who grew up in Denver, Colorado, near the Rocky Mountains and wanted to visit and explore the Canadian Rocky Mountains around Calgary, Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The Plain of Six Trails Above Lake Louise is a beautiful mountain hike around the Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park, surrounding Calgary in Alberta, Canada.
The hike to the Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse is one of Banff National Park's classic hikes. A 5.5 km hike from the Chateau Lake Louise, follow the lakeshore trail to the far end of the lake. You will pass some beautiful scenery, including waterfalls, towering rock faces (where you might spot some rock-climbers), and of course glaciers. Once you reach the tea house you’ll be at an elevation of 2,100 meters. The Tea House welcomes you with a nice ambiance; you’ll be glad to sit down and try some of our menu offerings, including refreshing lemonade that will make you ready to hike a bit farther to see all the glaciers in the area.

By far one of the most scenic hikes in the Canadian Rockies, the Plain of Six Glaciers trail offers expansive views of the impressive mountain features that surround Lake Louise, including Mt. Lefroy, Mt. Victoria and the Victoria Glacier. After your steady hike up, enjoy a snack at the historic Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse before continuing 1 kilometre to talus slopes that provide a high viewpoint of Abbot Pass at the Banff National Park, around Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

“I was told by a local that the Plain of Six Glaciers Trail was a really nice hike. She also told me to bring cash to get some tea at the tea house. The hike is moderate for the length and the views along the way are beautiful. At first, I continued past the tea house to get a closer look at the glaciers. If you are up for more hiking, I recommend doing this - the views get even better. I was lucky enough to be out there when a glacier calved off a cliff! The trail is easy to follow and there are a lot of people who continue past the tea house. Afterward, I went back to the tea house and got some local tea. It was very crowded in there and not a relaxed atmosphere (on a weekday). And there was a line for the bathroom. When you are done, you can go back the way you came, or there are other ways to go back and see different scenery.”
“The hike there is beautiful and only mild/moderate. Great views the entire way. Dining at the tea house is a special experience, although the food is only OK and the prices very high. It was very crowded when we were there - mid afternoon during August - but still a fun experience. If I were on a tight budget, I would pack lunch and beverage and eat nearby. Visited August 2015.”
